Tripiti is located 73 km south of Heraklion. You can reach it via a 6 km long dirt road that starts from the port of Lentas or drive 9 km from the village of Vasiliki of Messara. The dirt road crosses the wild Asteroussia Mountains next to the gorge of Agios Savvas with the imposing formations. Near the beach, in the Steno Gorge, the gorge becomes so narrow that only one car can fit. This point, where the high rocks are about to come together, is truly amazing.
Reaching the sea, you will see a large calm beach, with thin pebbles and green waters. On the beach there are tamarisk trees, in which you can find shade. To the west is the small cape of Fylakas, on which there are many caves that give their name to the beach of Tripiti (with holes). The beach is not organized and in August it gathers several locals who live in arbitrary constructions and trailers.
To the northeast of the beach, the ruins of a Proto-Minoan settlement, overlooking the blue South Cretan Sea, have been found.
Starting from the beach of Tripiti and as long as you drive to the coastal dirt road that leads to Lentas, you can discover other, small, sandy beaches of the area.
